Margy founded Akrete in 2011 and continues to be a hands-on leader who contributes her 27+ years of strategic counsel, content creation, industry expertise and PR flair to benefit each of our clients. With experience as a journalist, corporate marketing manager and public relations agency leader, she’s known as an expert communicator who listens first and always brings ideas and solutions to the table.
Margy has longstanding expertise in commercial real estate, finance, cannabis and professional services, counseling senior executives at some of the best-known firms. She is passionate about her leadership of Akrete’s team of senior communications and marketing professionals, and the unique hybrid work model the firm was built on long before the rest of the business world discovered it.
Previously, Margy led the Great Lakes office for a New York City-based public relations firm as a Senior Vice President, working with Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and many types of commercial real estate firms. She started her agency career at a boutique PR firm in Chicago where she led their commercial real estate practice. Margy started her career at a national real estate developer where she worked on development projects nationwide, from the Yahoo campus in Silicon Valley to high rises in Chicago and industrial developments across the country. She then worked in the global marketing group of Cushman & Wakefield and as a freelance journalist published in the Wall Street Journal, The Travel Channel, GRID Magazine, National Real Estate Investor, Midwest Real Estate News and a broad array of trade media.
Margy spends much of her time outside Akrete working on economic empowerment for traditionally marginalized groups such as women, minorities and veterans. She serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of SomerCor, an SBA lender, and as an Executive Committee Board Director for IMEC, a non-profit focused on manufacturing excellence. She has also served on the JLL Supplier Diversity Council and on the Board of the Drawbridge Community Revitalization Foundation. Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Women Business Owners, Vistage, the Forbes Agency Council, Commercial Real Estate Executive Women, CoreNet Global, the Urban Land Institute, Illinois Women in Cannabis, the Chicago Cannabis Council, the Editorial Board of Area Development Magazine, and a variety of other community and industry organizations.
Margy lives in Evanston, Illinois near Chicago and loves global travel and spending time with her family including two adult daughters and a son-in-law. She is researching her family tree that includes the two Adams U.S. presidents as well as a cast of interesting characters such as famed New York City architect John Duncan and his mysterious wife Dora.
